| After Japan's defeat in World War
II, Taiwan and Penghu returned to the embrace of the motherland
in 1945. In the meantime, the government started to reform the
Japanese systems: the five states of Taiwan and Penghu were
abolished and the three bureaus turned into eight counties;
the prefectures were changed into districts; the street zones
were altered to villages/towns and cities, and subordinated
to Chidu Township, Keelung District, Taipei County; the former
town hall was changed to local office; the twenty-one tribal
units under Japanese system were changed to Tingnei Village,
Nuannuan Village, Nuantung Village, Nuantung Village, Nuanhsi
Village, Patung Village, Panan Village, Papei Village, Chinan
Village, Chipei Village, Yingko Village, Tsaolan Village, Dunan
Village, Dupei Village, Liudu Village, Youi Village, Youerh
Village, Yousan Village, Matung Village, Manan Village, and
Mahsi Villiage, totalizing twenty-one villages; and in Jan.
1947, Keelung District was abolished and subordinated to the
jurisdiction of Taipei County Government.
In 1947, Chidu Township was designated into Chidu District,
Keelung City, and altered to district office with the village
changed into Li. In 1952, Ying-ko Li, Chinan Li, and Chipei
Li were divided into two Lis, and Shihtsuo Li, Chitung Li,
and Chihsi Li were set up. In 1978, Yousan Li was merged into
Youerh Li. In 1979, Yungan Li was set up in Yungping Li. In
1980, owing to the sharp increase in population, Yingko Li
was divided into four Lis, and Sanmin Li, Wufu Li, and Chihsien
Li were set up.
In 1984, Wufu Li was divided into two Lis, and Liuho Li was
set up; Chihsien Li was divided into two Lis and Szuwei Li
was set up; Dupei Li was set into Paihu Community and divided
into three Lis with the set up of Paihu Li, and Shihchien
Li after the city land rezoning project implemented by the
city government was completed; then, Chengkuang Li was divided
into two Lis, and Chengming Li was set up. There are totalizing
twenty-five Lis in the entire district.
On March 1, 1988, the population of Chidu District has already
surpassed seventy thousand. As it's the district with the
largest population and area in the entire city, in an attempt
to facilitate the implementation of government decrees, with
the city government's adjustment of administrative district,
six Lis in Anle Community, including Sanmin Li, Szuwei Li,
Wufu Li, Liuho Li, Chichien Li, and Yingko Li, were subordinated
to the jurisdiction of Anle District.
